Can I recycle my old filters and stones?Updated a month ago
When it's time to replace your zazen filters and stones, your old filters and stones can be recycled as follows:
- Multi-Stage Filter – Over time, this filter traps toxins, chemicals, poisons, heavy metals, and other contaminants in its layers as it filters your water. We recommend not recycling this filter. Instead, wrap it securely and discard it in your regular rubbish bin.
- Ceramic Pre-Filter – There are two steps to recycling your Ceramic Pre-Filter:
Break the Ceramic Portion
Carefully break the ceramic part of the filter using a hammer or any hard object.
The ceramic is made of natural diatomaceous earth (DE), a high-quality, eco-friendly substance. Unlike the DE used in pool chemicals, the DE in the ceramic is ideal for gardening.
You can use the ceramic pieces directly in your garden. DE enhances soil health and can be sprinkled around pot plants or areas with ant problems, as ants naturally avoid DE.
For smaller pieces, crush the ceramic and use it around plants or for pest control.
Recycle the Base
The plastic base of the Ceramic Pre-Filter can be recycled. Simply place it in your recycling bin.
- Anti-Bacterial Stones, Alkalinity Enhancers, and Mineral Stones – these can be used in the garden as rocks
- Shower Filter Cartridges - 100% recyclable as the filtration media is different to the Multi-Stage Filter.
- Cardboard/paper packaging – dispose of in your recycling bin
